2 men charged with national security offenses over incident at UK air base used by US forces
Suspects, both 24, face charges under National Security Act following counterterrorism investigation into September incident at RAF Fairford
Two men have been charged with national security offenses following an incident last month at RAF Fairford, a British military air base used by the US Air Force, the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Tuesday.
Mohmed Abdulkarim and Nouman Essghir, both 24, were charged under the National Security Act 2023 following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing.
The incident occurred in late September at the base in Gloucestershire, southwestern England, prompting a major counterterrorism investigation.
Frank Ferguson, chief crown prosecutor for the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said prosecutors had decided to bring charges following what he described as a "high-profile incident" involving RAF Fairford.
A third suspect, a 25-year-old UK-Iranian national, was released without charge.
