Unemployment in UK rises to 5% in July-September

Unemployment in the UK rose to 5% in the July-September period, above market expectations.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Tuesday that the unemployment rate, for people aged 16 years and over, rose from 4.8% in the previous quarter.
The number of unemployed persons amounted to around 1.8 million as of September.
The unemployment rate was 4.3% in the July-September period of last year.
The employment rate, meanwhile, was 75%, or 34.2 million people, down 0.2 percentage points over the same period.
