ENGLISH, THE JOURNEY TOWARDS EXCELLENCE!
It is a known fact that English is one of the most used languages in the world. It helps connect people in a global world. It can also help you in your personal and professional life. In this regard, teaching English is often considered one of the most rewarding careers and can provide a lot of personal satisfaction.
When it comes to methodology, we do not limit ourselves to one particular style. We utilise multiple teaching methodologies to get the best results for the learners. One of the most important factors is to understand the level of the learners then the method to be used can easily be customized accordingly.
A few years back I developed a system I have called “instant pick” and it has been in use with 100% success rate since then.
In this method, learners are acquainted with the logic in the target language in a very simple, easy form. What important is to encourage them build short sentences starting from the first lesson. They are presented with some common vocabulary items such as the names of occupations, everyday words, etc. Then the structure of (am, is, are, was, were) is introduced and without teaching any action verbs, they are supposed to make sentences present or past.
The (am, is, are, was, were) words do not exist in most of the languages so they easily forget to use them in the sentences. To make them remember the use of these small words, they are called as the hearts of the sentence .
The teacher draws a chart showing the present and past forms of the of the sentences. In this regard, the learners are presented with the meanings and use of “subject” and “verb=action” and learners are asked to make sentences.
In the first lesson they can make sentences in the format of “Subject + “
What important here is to ensure that they do not use any action verbs.
They can start to build sentences about themselves, the city and the country they are currently living or the country they are from.
London is expensive. My country is green. England is big.
The most important element of the process here is to decorate the class hours and the learners’ minds with some commonly used vocabulary such as some adjectives and their antonyms, a/an concept, alphabet and even the code alphabet is really useful for them to learn how to spell correctly.
In English alphabet the basic vowels are (a, e, i, o, u) and the rest is technically called consonants. Many exercises and drills are done in the class to broaden their vocabulary knowledge. In the method, both vocabulary and grammar are given in a way that the learners can start to make their own sentences confidently. It is like a game and when they understand there is a logic in the target language, it motivates them. Motivation is a driving force in learning process. When you have motivated, ready-to-learn learners, English teaching is a fun process in which everyone is satisfied.
It is also very important for the learners in the class to know their names, countries. In this regard, a small game is played, everyone in the class finds an adjective starting with the initial of their names using dictionaries, google, etc, if they struggle, teacher helps them find it. All names with the adjectives are written on the board and they introduce themselves wth the adjective before the names. If they learn the names and the origin of the countries, a more friendly, family like environment helps them lean willingly in self-confidence.
